Understanding Coaching & Mentoring
What is coaching?
+Coaching is a structured, forward-focused conversation that helps you gain clarity, set goals, and take action. A coach does not give advice or tell you what to do — they ask the right questions to help you find your own answers.
At TFU, coaching is rooted in ILM methodology and frameworks, EMCC Global Code of Ethics, trauma-aware practice, and a deep understanding of human behaviour and patterns. It is practical, purposeful, and completely focused on you.
What is mentoring — and how is it different from coaching?
+Mentoring draws on the mentor’s own experience and expertise to guide a less experienced person. Where coaching asks questions, mentoring may offer insight, perspective, and lived experience.
Sheona brings 25 years of cross-sector experience to her mentoring work. TFU can use both approaches ethically within the same relationship, moving between them as the client’s needs evolve.
Is coaching the same as therapy or counselling?
+No. Coaching and mentoring are not therapy, counselling, or psychotherapy. TFU does not diagnose, treat, or provide clinical support.
Coaching is purpose-led, forward-focused and action-oriented. Therapy often explores the past in clinical depth. With Sheona’s knowledge of Counselling Skills and Studies and BACP ethical boundaries rooted in practice, if therapeutic support is more appropriate for you, TFU will say so and help you find the right person.
What qualifications does Sheona hold?
+25 years of professional experience across multiple industries and levels. Diploma in Business Administration.
ILM Level 5 in Coaching and Mentoring. Member of the EMCC (European Mentoring and Coaching Council). BACP Levels 1, 2 and 3 in Counselling Skills & Studies (not practitioner status). Mental Health Awareness training. Intentional Peer Support core training principles.
Sheona works within the EMCC Global Code of Ethics, ILM frameworks, and BACP ethical principles — applying the highest standard wherever frameworks differ.
Trustee — Rudolph Walker Foundation.
Your Rights & Data Protection
How is my personal data handled?
+Your personal data is handled in accordance with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. Sheona Walker is the Data Controller for Time for U. Your data is collected only for legitimate purposes, stored securely, and never sold or shared with third parties without your consent.
You have the right to access, correct, or request deletion of your personal data at any time. To exercise these rights, contact info@timeforu.co.
What information do you collect and why?
+We collect your name, contact details, and information you share during coaching sessions. This is used solely to deliver coaching services, maintain session records, and communicate with you about your engagement with TFU.
Session notes are stored securely. Anything shared in a session is confidential within the limits of law and professional ethics.
Is everything I share in a session confidential?
+Yes — with very limited exceptions required by law or professional ethics. These exceptions include situations where there is serious risk of harm to you or others. These boundaries are explained clearly at the start of your engagement.
TFU adheres to the EMCC confidentiality framework and signposts appropriately where a situation is outside the scope of coaching and mentoring.
Professional Standards
What professional bodies govern TFU’s practice?
+TFU operates to the combined standards of the EMCC Global Code of Ethics, ILM coaching and mentoring frameworks, and BACP ethical principles. Where frameworks differ in stringency, the higher standard applies.
Does TFU carry professional insurance?
+Yes. TFU carries professional indemnity and public liability insurance appropriate for a coaching and mentoring practice. Details available on request.
What documents should I expect before we begin?
+Before your first session you will receive: a Coaching Agreement (contract), an In-take Client Form, a Privacy Notice explaining how your data is handled, and consent for session recording if applicable. These can be provided via Simply.coach — TFU’s secure client management platform.
The range of what TFU offers is broad…
+…The way it is delivered is not.
Every service TFU offers is available, but not every enquiry becomes a client.
Sheona personally holds a small client group — deliberately. Because the quality of the work depends entirely on the quality of the attention.
That is a choice this practice makes before any client walks through the door.
